Prof. Patrick Hall
Prof. Patrick HallPatrick Hall was Professor of Computer Science at Brunel University and then the Open University in the UK from 1987 to 2005. Prior to this he held various jobs in industry concerned with the development of large software systems, from database management systems to command and control systems. While his research has been in various aspects of software technology and engineering, a particular focus has been in software globalisation pursued in a number of projects across Europe and in South Asia. He is now leading two projects in Nepal, Bhasha Sanchar to develop language resources and technology for Nepali, and Sambad, the subject of this project.

Ganesh GhimireGanesh Bahadur Ghimire is an anthropologist by training. He completed his Masters Degree in Anthropology/ Sociology from Tribhuvan Univeristy in 2005. He has also been working as editor of the Baha journal (a social science journal) published by the Social Science Baha since the first issue in 2004. He has a keen interest in cultural study of science and technology and its application in rural life and deprived communities. Within the Sambad team he is the sociologist/ anthropologist investigating user interfaces and studying the cultural issues of software application in different communities.
Prakash Manandhar
Prakash ManandharPrakash Manandhar has been working in the software industry in Nepal since 2002. In addition, he also worked as part time lecturer teaching Image Processing to Bachelor of Engineering students at Kathmandu Engineering College and Kathmandu University. He worked as Chief Systems Analyst and later as Chief of Research (2003- 2005) at Data Analysis and Software Solutions (DASS) Pvt. Ltd. Prakash worked for Mind Technologies and Research Pvt. Ltd as software architect for embedded systems (2002 – 2003). He left for further studies at UMass Dartmouth, US.
Ishwor Thapa
Ishwor ThapaIshwor Thapa is a computer engineer, graduated from Tribhuvan University in the year 2005. He volunteered as an in-house software developer for HLCIT (High Level Commission for Information Technology) Nepal. He also worked as a freelancer web developer for the then radio e-magazine, His graduation research project, titled Way in The Dark, was a Voice based navigation System dedicated to the visually impaired people. He was involved as a Software Developer on the Sambad Team, primarily focused with the development of Nepali Text-to-speech System. Currently, he is doing his MS in US.
Sagun Dhakhwa
Sagun DhakhwaSagun Dhakhwa is a computer engineer by training. He has held a bachelor degree in Computer Engineering from Tribhuvan University, since 2005. His academic project in the university was a research on video conferencing in multiplatform and multiprogramming language using CORBA architecture. He worked as a lead web application developer in Global Initiative (, a pioneer project in webocracy. He also worked as a web application developer in creative minds, a web company in Nepal, in 2003. On Sambad he initiated the development of speech editing software and involved in HCI research. He is currently studying Masters at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden.

Prabin GautamPrabin Gautam graduated in Bacholer of Computer Science(honors) from Kathmandu University in 2007. His final year project in the university was the development of “Dialog based Expert system for Vaccine and immunization” carried out under supervision of  Kathmandu University and Madan Puraskar Pustakalaya. He have also been involved in web development and Content Management System(CMS). His most appreciated work is the development of Pathibhara devi website (  He is involved in Free and Open Source Software(FOSS) Movement as a developer and advocate . He is founding member and former coordinator of Kathmandu University Open Source Community (KUOSC- He is present Secretary of FOSS Nepal Community. He has been working as a software developer in the Sambad Project for the development of Speech Editor and research in Human Computer Interaction .

Abhishek ShresthaAbhishek Shrestha grauduated in BIM(Bachelor in Information Management) in 2007 from St. Xavier's College, Tribhuvan University . He was involved in developing the “MultimediaEditor”, now a component of Sambad project, during his 2 months' internship at Madan Puraskar Pustakalya. He has been working as a software developer in the Sambad Team for the development of speech editing software (SpeechEditor) and human computer interaction research.
